The M. Steel Cycles Gang

Mark Mowbray

Mark Mowbray

Marks prime responsibilities are sales manager and buyer but more importantly production manager for the shops sound system, if you don’t like the music Mark is the man if you do he has been known to give the odd CD to customers. He has been with the shop since 1986 but in that all that time cannot claim to have ridden a bike on even a near regular basis, being a fine weather pleasure cyclist. This does nothing to undermine his vast knowledge of our products and services. He spends his spare time checking the vintage of the local brew of snakebite, fast cars, and reading all about the underworlds most notorious individuals….not all at the same time thankfully, not to mention Newcastle United and his spreadsheet on premiership attendances.

Chris Brannon

Chris Brannon

Chris has been a cyclist as far back as he can remember trying every facet of the sport. He joined the company in 1996 after an apprentiship at another family owned shop in the north east as mechanic and is now qualified to Cytec level 2 and is the workshop manager. His competitive cycling comes in fits and starts depending on his moral after mending bikes all day. But his real passion is his Dax Cobra which he spends hours fiddling with in his garage on cold winter nights, at least that is what he tells his wife. Although not openly aggrieved by his lack of hair he has been seen strutting around the shop in the worst bad taste wig in Newcastle with not a single customer noticing!!!

Dave Buchan

Dave Buchan

Dave first joined us in 1995 and spent six years as shop manager before riding into the depths of Italy to discover himself, or in other word a mid life crisis! Since his return he has spent three years in the building trade to return back to the fold in the summer of 2007 as mechanic (Cytec level 3 advanced). He has a vast knowledge of the industry and his wheel building is legendry. Apart from his life long cycling passion he now has a new light in his life his son Leo born July 2007 and in Dave’s words he is the “chosen one”!!!!!

Paul Waugh

Paul Waugh

Paul started his career as shop Saturday lad and has progressed through the workshop (Cytec level 2) to sales and is currently keeping the keyboard hot as our webmaster. His cycling career is as varied as his hairstyles encompassing, downhill, dirt jumping and general larking about! In his spare time! he lists his hobbies as driving his PUG (Peugeot 205 gti) rebuilding his PUG at every opportunity, beer, friends, and cutting the lawn for his mum!

Simon Waugh

Simon Waugh

Simon has been with us since 2001 when he started as a mechanic (Cytec level 2). However after some physical persuasion we managed to shoehorn him into the shop and has been happily serving ever since. A graduate of Specialized’s “university” training program he is also the man to speak to on suspension, hydraulic brakes, and anything to do with Hope. He has a passion for downhill or any expensive full suspension bikes and even once put a number on his bike, unfortunately he got dirty. His other area of expertise is lager and the night life in Newcastle, Sunderland or South Shields although he is promising to do more riding next year.

Paul Blackett

Paul Blackett

Also known as Blacky, Paul is in semi retirement, so when he in not doing millions of miles on his bike he looks after the warranty, returns and customer service for the shop. He has been with us since 2005 but his history with Joe and the lads goes back to the early seventies when he and Joe were normally the last two standing on some of their infamous training rides. His passions are anything military, the war. his Dax Cobra, the Daily Mail and finally last but not least his wife Deidre.

Marian Brown

Marian Brown

Marion started in December 2003 just in time for Xmas. Joe spent the first six months calling her Maureen so as a compromise we all now call her Madge!!! She is officially our administration guru dotting the I’s etc but she is really the Godmother of the shop keeping us all in line. Having three grown up sons and a husband still waiting to grow up she has had plenty of practice. In her spare time she is qualified to practice reflexology but has yet to handle any of the lads.
